The reaction of thermal addition of bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene and its 5-methyl substituted derivative  with oxalic acid and the reaction of esterification of the obtained  monoester ин C₂–C₆ saturated alcohols to form the corresponding diesters of oxalic acid have been studied. Synthesized diesters have a pleasant balsamic odor and can be used as a component for the preparation of synthetic fragrances.
