In the present work, graphitic carbon nitride powders synthesized from urea, melamine and dicyandiamide were ultrasonic exfoliated and used to evaluate their adsorption efficiency for iron ions –Fe(III) from aqueous solution. It has been established that the efficiency of sorption is significantly influenced by the pH of the medium, contact time, weight of the sorbent and the initial concentration of Fe(III). High adsorption of the iron ion (97–99%) occurs at pH4. It is shown that the Fe(III) sorption isotherm on the studied carbon nitride samples can be modeled by both Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms based on correlation coefficients.
