In the present study, the cycloalkylation of phenol with 1(3)-methylcyclohexenes was investigated in batch mode over a ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst. The aim is to develop an efficient catalytic system and determine the optimal conditions for the selective synthesis of para-[1(3)- methylcyclohexyl] phenols. Due to its shape-selective properties, the ZSM-5 catalyst promoted the preferential formation of para-isomers. The effects of temperature, reactant molar ratio, reaction time, and catalyst loading were systematically studied. Optimal conditions for the reaction of phenol with 1-methylcyclohexene were established as follows: temperature 110°C, phenol-to-MCH molar ratio 1:1, reaction time 5 h, and catalyst loading 7.5 wt%. Under these conditions, the yield of para-[1-methylcyclohexyl]phenol reached 85.4% with a selectivity of 89.7%. For para-[3-methylcyclohexyl]phenol, the yield and selectivity were 82.1% and 87.8%, respectively. The structures of the synthesized products were confirmed by IR and NMR spectroscopy. Comparative analysis demonstrated the superior catalytic performance of ZSM-5 relative to other catalysts.
